Driver Injured After Shooting on I-95 in Miami-Dade

Someone opened fire on a driver in a vehicle along I-95 on Tuesday. One person was hurt and made his way to Jackson North Hospital.

The evidence left behind of the incident was still parked at the hospital Tuesday evening, hours after state troopers said the the driver of a white Mercedes was shot.

"Based on the driver and passenger, a black vehicle pulled alongside and fired several shots at the white Mercedes, as you can see," said Joe Sanchez with Florida Highway Patrol.

The bullet holes left behind on the driver's side prove the person behind the wheel was lucky. Investigators said he suffered only a minor injury; a wound to his bicep.

Troopers said the shots were fired in broad daylight, just after 1:30 p.m., while the driver was traveling on the I-95 northbound, between 135th and 151st.

When the weapon went off, the passenger, identified by troopers as the driver's son, reacted, "The passenger of the vehicle jumped out of the vehicle as it was traveling northbound, so he did sustain some injuries."

Detectives said the only description they have on the shooter is that he or she was in a black car. When the shots stopped flying, troopers said the driver of the Mercedes, although hurt, made a quick stop.

"He was able to stop the vehicle. The passenger jumped back in and they drove to the hospital," Sanchez explained.

At Jackson North, the driver was treated in the emergency room and then transported to Aventura Hospital. Troopers said he's now back home and recovering.

If you know anything about this case, you're urged to call police immediately.
