Driver Rushed to Hospital After Crashing Into Charter School in Wynwood

A South Florida driver was rushed to the hospital after driving his vehicle into a school Thursday morning.

Crews responded to the scene at Miami Arts Charter School around 9:30 a.m. Once there, they found a black Chevrolet Malibu had struck the side of the building off Northwest 23rd Street near the Wynwood section north of downtown.

The driver was freed by paramedics and rushed to Ryder Trauma Center with a serious arm injury. A school security guard who was in the lobby where the accident occurred escaped serious injury while two children who saw the accident were unhurt, but extremely upset and were evaluated by Fire Rescue crews before returning to class.

The accident and its cause are currently being investigated.
