‘Everybody Loved Her': Driver Sought After Woman Killed in Wynwood Hit-and-Run

Rose Marie Jackson was in the area of Northwest 2nd Avenue and 21st Street around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday when she was struck by the vehicle

Family members are hoping the public can help find a driver behind a Wynwood hit-and-run that was caught on camera and left a 62-year-old woman dead.

Rose Marie Jackson was in the area of Northwest 2nd Avenue and 21st Street around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday when she was struck by the vehicle, Miami Police officials said. Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police released surveillance footage showing Jackson walking down the street when she was struck by the car, which police described as a dark-colored SUV with chrome trim.

Traffic homicide Det. Marvin Lopez said Jackson was crossing the street and walking toward the sidewalk when she was struck. The SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed, over the posted 30 mph speed limit, Lopez said.

"This driver, impaired or not, made a mistake, we do understand that, struck a person, left that person there," Lopez said at a news conference Friday.

Family members, who also attended the news conference, said Jackson's husband had recently died, and she had lost her only daughter and granddaughter in a house fire years ago.

"Everybody knew her, everybody loved her," one family member said.

Police said they're working on leads but need the public's help.

"This family is distraught and they want closure, they need to know who did this," Lopez said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
