Driver Sought in NW Miami-Dade Hit-and-Run That Killed Scooter Rider

A distraught family is pleading for help from the community after losing their loved one to a hit-and-run crash in northwest Miami-Dade earlier this month.

Surveillance video shows 60-year-old Jesus Fourcoy Cruz, driving a scooter west on Northwest 7th Street and 111th Avenue around midnight On May 7 when he was rear-ended by a white four-door sedan.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene westbound without stopping to help Cruz.

"He was the best dad ever," Cruz's son, Yoandi Fourcoy, said at a news conference Wednesday morning with Miami-Dade Police.

Family members and police believe that there was at least one witness who was driving in the area when the victim was hit and killed.

"He was a friendly person, he loved his family and I can't believe this is happening," said his daughter-in-law, Lorena Fourcoy.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
