Driver in Pompano Beach Hit-And-Run That Left Woman Critical Arrested: BSO

A hit-and-run driver who left a woman in critical condition after he struck her in Pompano Beach has been arrested, authorities said.

Jerry Mayo, 43, is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and tampering with evidence in the Dec. 4 crash that left 39-year-old Amanda Crews hospitalized, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said Wednesday.

Crews, of West Palm Beach, remains hospitalized with serious life-threatening injuries.

Officials said Crews was walking eastbound across Northwest 31st Avenue around 12:45 a.m. when a 2005 Chevrolet Outlander driven by Mayo headed northbound on Northwest 31st Avenue struck her at the intersection at Northwest Second Street.

The impact of the crash sent Crews' body flying into the air. She landed in the roadway, and the driver fled the scene headed northbound on Northwest 31st Avenue, officials said.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue transported Crews to Broward Health North Medical.

Mayo's vehicle had damage which he had started to repair when he was arrested, officials said. Mayo, of North Lauderdale, was booked into jail and later released, and it's unknown if he's hired an attorney.
