Early Voting Begins in South Florida

South Florida voters started casting their ballots at early voting sites Monday morning.

The Miami-Dade early voting sites opened at 7 a.m., while the Broward sites opened at 9 a.m. Voters don't have to go to their assigned precinct, they can vote at any of the early voting locations.

Early voting runs from Monday up until November 2nd, and candidates have already been out since the weekend encouraging voters to get a head start. Congressman Joe Garcia and Governor Rick Scott have kick-off events scheduled for Monday.

In both counties, voters can expect to see a two-page ballot that includes three proposed constitutional amendments as well as county questions. Election Day is Nov. 4.

One hotly contested race is for the governor's seat. During the second debate, Gov. Scott and Charlie Crist differed on almost every issue, including same-sex marriage.

Another hot button issue is Amendment 2, the medical marijuana initiative.  If enacted, this measure would allow for the cultivation, purchase, possession and use of medical cannabis to treat certain medical conditions when recommended by a doctor.

NBC 6 will be hosting debate about Medical Marijuana on Wednesday at 7 p.m. It can be seen on NBC 6 and on NBC6.com.
