Elderly Man Rams Car Into Barbershop Window

A Southwest Miami-Dade barbershop sustained major damage after an elderly driver rammed into the shop while pulling into a handicapped spot Friday.

“It’s normal in Miami, normal in Miami,” said witness Carlos Abreu.

The elderly man was in the car with his wife as he tried pulling into the spot in front of Eli's Beauty and Barber Shop at 8696 SW 137th Court. The car made it about halfway in to the shop through the front window.

“It was such a harsh impact; we were all in shock, everybody pretty much froze for that moment,” said witness Leonor Garrido.

Some customers were hit by flying debris and one man that was sitting on a chair waiting to get his hair cut said he was pushed by the vehicle. The man did not need medical attention and still got his hair cut at the establishment.

Workers covered the hole with plywood Friday afternoon and the owner of the shop hopes the driver’s insurance company foots the repair bill.

“These are monetary things that can be redone here and worked out through insurances, but I mean losing someone’s life; that you cannot replace,” said Garrido. “So basically no one was hurt and that is the main thing here.”
