Elderly Scammers Dupe Woman Out of $5,000

Rogues hustle 71-year-old woman at SoFla grocery store

Elderly scammers are at it again in South Florida, this time tricking a 71-year-old woman into forking over $5,000.

On February 25, two women entered the Publix located at the 18400 Block of Pines Blvd with the intent of scamming an unsuspecting elderly person.

According to police, the victim was approached by a woman who called herself "Felisa." Felisa told the victim she needed help mailing an envelope. While the suspect was speaking to the victim, another suspect known to the victim as "Margaret Robinson" was standing nearby pretending to listen to Felisa's predicament.

Robinson pointed out to the victim that there was money in the envelope. Felisa explained to the victim that the money was found, and she needed to have the serial numbers cleaned, so they could not be traced. The suspects both then asked the victim if she could help.

What they needed was $5,000 from the victim, and they promised to double the money if she agreed to help them. The victim agreed and drove to her bank with both suspects, withdrawing $5,000 and handing it to them. Afterwards, the women asked the victim to drive them to the Walgreens located in the 18300 block of Pines Blvd. They claimed that they had a friend who could help them remove the serial numbers from the money. The victim was told to park in the rear while they went inside, but the suspects never returned.

Police are hoping someone will recognize the women in the surveillance video. The suspect "Felisa" is described as a black female about 5' 6", 40 years old and with a heavy build. The other suspect "Margaret Robinson" is described as the same height and build but around 60 years old.
