Elderly Woman Scammed Out Of $18,000 Worth of Jewelry: Police

Davie Police are looking for a group of men who they believe scammed an elderly woman out of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.

Police say cameras were rolling the moment an elderly woman met a group of men at a local grocery store, who would later con her out of thousands of dollars.

“I did not suspect anything,” said Ancietas Nanowsky, a victim. “I thought they were genuine people.”

Instead, Davie Police said they are a team of criminals seen on surveillance video scamming an 80-year-old woman. They allegedly stole more than $18,000 worth of her previous jewelry.

“They talked nicely,” said Nanowsky. “They did not force me to do this, to do that.”

Police said the scam started when two women approached the victim at a Publix along State Road 84 last month. One suspect told the victim she just won a $480,000 lottery ticket and she needed help looking for a lawyer, and also needed cash or jewelry to get the money.

The suspects told the victim that if she helped, they would give her $10,000 from the lottery winnings.

“I never thought of anything else. That they were a scammer or wanted to deceive me at the time,” said Nanowsky.

The crooks were able to convince the 80-year-old to go back to her home to collect her personal jewelry. Once the suspects got the valuables, they snuck away, leaving the victim to realize she had been scammed.

“I was crying, I was shaking. I went around and went ‘Where are you now? Where are you now?’ I was shouting around my area,” said Nanowsky.

The two female suspects are described as white or Hispanic, just over five feet tall. One has blonde hair. The victim said they were speaking Spanish.

Police describe the suspect car as a newer white Mitsubishi Outlander Sport.
