Election in Tampa-Area House District Delayed

The race in Tuesday's Republican District 64 primary will now be decided during November's general election.

A judge has delayed the election for a Florida House seat in the Tampa Bay area.

The race between James Grant and Miriam Steinberg in Tuesday's Republican District 64 primary will now be decided during November's general election.

Judge Angela Dempsey ruled recently that a write-in candidate was ineligible because he didn't live in the district.

Since there are only Republican candidates, under state law all voters in the district would be eligible to vote and not just members of the GOP. However, the race was only included on Republican ballots.

Dempsey ruled that any votes cast for Grant or Steinberg during Tuesday's primary will not be counted.
