Erratic Gambling Center Manager Fatally Shoots Nephew: Police

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office said a manager acting erratically at a gambling business shot and killed his nephew who went to the business to calm his uncle down.

The shooting happened at Lucky Fish Games on Northcliffe Boulevard in Spring Hill at about 5 p.m. on Saturday.

WFLA reports that Roger Vazquez, 55, was acting erratically and was waving a gun around, according to witnesses.

Another manager called the business owner, who then contacted Vazquez's nephew, 44-year-old Raymond Correa. Witnesses said Correa is usually able to calm Vazquez down.

Once Correa arrived at the gaming center, he and the other manager convinced Vazquez to unload the gun he was holding and put it on the counter.

Detectives said Vazquez then pulled out another gun and pointed it at his nephew, eventually shooting him twice. Sheriff's office authorities said Vazquez continued to shoot Correa as he laid on the ground. Correa was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses who heard the gunshots ran to a nearby business to call authorities. One man went back into the building and asked what happened. Deputies said Vazquez pointed a gun at him and told him it "didn't concern him." The man then left to call 911 and waited outside.

Vazquez surrendered to deputies when they arrived and was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center. He is being held on charges of homicide and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

A judge set a $70,000 bond during his first appearance Sunday morning.
