Ex-Wife Who Plotted Hubby's Gruesome Murder Sentenced

Miramar woman who plotted to have ex hacked to death with chain saw gets 10 years in prison

The Miramar woman who plotted to have her ex-husband chopped up with a chainsaw for revenge will be spending the next decade behind bars.

Mercedes Morales, 58, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for trying to have former hubby Fred Coral butchered by a hitman, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Morales allegedly paid the hitman, who happened to be an FBI informant, with a $6,800 diamond ring in exchange for killing Coral.

"Tell him Mecha is the one that is ordering to do this to you,'' Morales, who is also known as Mecha, told the assassin as the FBI listened in, "for being a traitor."

Mecha apparently wasn't too happy with Coral after he turned her into police in 2003 for money laundering. The couple and 34 others were indicted in 2003 on charges of helping to run a drug money laundering ring. Morales went to prison for nearly two years after her faithful hubby cooperated with authorities.

Coral, 45, received house arrest for his help.

Morales was released in 2005 but apparently hadn't gotten over the betrayal. She was arrested again last June when her murder plot was exposed.

On Thursday, Morales pleaded with U.S. District Judge William Zloch for leniency, saying Coral wouldn't let her see their child.

"I was desperate," she said. "God knows my heart and God knows that I'm not that kind of person. I'm begging you for forgiveness."
