Exclusive Video of Witness Speaking About Diplomat Sons' Shootout

It was a shootout you saw first on NBC 6 that grabbed headlines across the U.S. and Canada.

How could the sons of a prominent, diplomatic family stationed in South Florida end up in such tragic circumstances?

Now, for the first time, we are hearing from the man who told police he set up the marijuana buy.

At an apartment complex in Miami is where it all went down, at a time when Roxanne Dube was the top diplomat from Canada in South Florida.

Her 15-year-old son is behind bars charged with murder; his older brother is dead, as well as another teen.

"One of them was saying, 'The money, the money, where is the money.' And the other one was saying, 'I have the money right here,'" explained Robert Sanchez.

Sanchez is the man who, in his police interview, told police he coordinated the meeting between Jean Wabafiyebazu who ended up dead, teen Joshua Wright who was also killed, and Anthony Rodriguez who was also shot when Sanchez said a deal over the marijuana went downhill.

The crime scene showed the violence that took place inside the small apartment just off 37th Avenue and 17th Street.

Awaiting trial on a charge of felony murder is 15-year-old Marc Wabafiyebazu who has entered a not guilty plea.

Police said he was seen arriving with his brother in a black vehicle to make the drug deal.

NBC 6 exclusively obtained the police interviews with Rodriguez and Sanchez who told detectives Jean Wabafiyebazu called him multiple times looking for drugs.

"He just told me that he was from Canada. He moved from Canada," Sanchez said. "He's been trying to tell me, 'Oh can you get me somebody. Can you get me somebody.' I never found anybody until today."

Sanchez indicated things went awry when Jean thought he was coming to get two pounds of the marijuana but Sanchez said he only saw the other men with one pound, nicknamed "a plate" in drug lingo.

"He came with his money. He showed the money in the beginning," Sanchez said during the interview.

"He was expecting to get two plates?" asked the detective in the video.

"Yeah," Sanchez responded.

"But you only see one plate?" stated the detective.

"I only saw one," Sanchez said. "They were arguing back and forth about the one plate."

Sanchez said things got more tense between the men in the apartment, then the shooting started.

"The guy with the purple asking him for the money. Like show me the money. Show me the money where it's at. And then I guess he wasn't planning to show him all the money and then the shot," Sanchez said. "I don't know what happened, officer. I just really don't know. He just said give me the money. Give me the money and the weed and all that stuff and that's it, that's all I know."

Sanchez continued, "When I heard the gun shots. I just left. I literally just jumped over somebody's fence and I left. I was scared. I didn't want to get shot."

Rodriguez has entered a not guilty plea to a third degree murder charge. Speaking to police after he was shot, he actually expected to go home.

Sanchez is going to be a prime witness in the criminal case against him and the diplomat's younger son. He's due back in court in September.
