Express Lanes, Tolls Coming to I-75

Construction to ease traffic will come at a price for motorists

Interstate 75 is on its way to becoming the latest South Florida thoroughfare to have express lanes with tolls, state transportation officials said Tuesday.

Construction projects to improve travel on 75 and speed up traffic along the north-south corridor are already underway and other enhancements are expected to come in the next 18 months, FDOT said.

"The major component of this project is the express lanes, which are similar to the Interstate 95 express which is operational now," said Dat Huynh, project engineer for the plan.

In addition to the express lanes, FDOT will expand the northbound ramp from the Florida Turnpike to northbound I-75.

Plans are also in the works to build ramps that will connect the southbound Turnpike to I-75 in both directions.
