Bomb Squad Called After FIU Student Made Threat Against Jewish Museum

A student at Florida International University made a threat targeting Miami Beach's Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU, which led to a bomb squad being called and an Israeli Consulate event being canceled.

"Law enforcement located the student. While the student was being interviewed, an FIU Police dog alerted to possible explosives in the student’s vehicle, located in the FIU Blue Garage," FIU said in a statement.
Following the dog's alert, a bomb squad was called for the Blue Garage and police also responded to the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU. Both locations were deemed safe.

The Consulate General of Israel in Miami said Thursday's Balfour Declaration event in Miami Beach was canceled due to threats about the same time the FIU incident began.

The Consulate General of Israel in Miami said Thursday's Balfour Declaration event in Miami Beach was canceled due to threats at about the same time the FIU incident began.

FIU issued an all-clear notice hours after the bomb squad reached the university.

"Evacuate Blue Garage. Everyone stay away until further notice. Police Activity," the university wrote on Twitter announcing the incident.

The Blue Garage at FIU is located beside the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum near Parking Lot 4 on the southeast part of campus.

None were injured.

The FIU Police Department previously said it was investigating a possible explosive alert, adding that the incident at the Blue Garage "poses no immediate threat or safety concerns to the FIU community."

The Miami-Dade Police Department identified the student as 21-year-old Oscar Aguayo. Officials will determine whether he will face charges.
