Family Demands Answers After Man Killed in Road Rage Incident

The family of a victim killed in a road rage incident on the Palmetto Expressway Friday is demanding answers and spoke exclusively to NBC 6.

“Stay in the car, it’s not worth it,” said Vanessa Giles, the victim’s sister-in-law. “Incidents like this happen and we have more than one family suffering.”

Her brother-in-law was fatally shot Friday morning on the 25th Street southbound exit ramp of the Palmetto Expressway.

Police say Jason Giles, 31, was driving a semi-truck when he got into an altercation with the driver of a Nissan Altima.

Police said the victim pulled out a knife during the incident. But his brother says that’s out of character for him.

“My brother was a very calm guy, I’m not sure what was going through his mind,” said Eric Giles, the victim’s brother.

According to investigators, that’s when the other driver fired a gun, killing Giles at the scene. But that weapon has not been recovered.

“They don’t have the gun, the gun is missing and we don’t understand how the gun is missing,” said Vanessa.

His family says that Giles is a Navy veteran who lived in Sunny Isles and put family above all else.

“We are asking if you were in the area at that time, please check your cars. Please just come forward,” said Vanessa.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
