Fans of South Florida based rapper XXXTentacion are remembering his shocking death one year ago – while four people charged in the deadly shooting await trial in the case.

The 20-year-old rapper, born Jahseh Onfroy, was shot during what police say was an apparent robbery attempt outside a business in Deerfield Beach on June 18, 2018. Onfroy was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In the days that followed the shooting, thousands of people mourned the Broward County native’s death at both a public service held inside the BB&T Center and at a private service.

Four men – 20-year-old Trayvon Newsome along with 22-year-olds Dedrick Williams, Michael Boatwright and Robert Allen – are all facing charges that include first degree murder and armed robbery.

After his death, a posthumous album reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts – an honor that he had reached with his sophomore album just three months before his death. XXXTentacion’s girlfriend gave birth to the couple’s first child, a boy named Gekyume, in January.
