Friends and family took over JT's Sports Bar and Grill in Pembroke Pines, filling every seat to watch the match. Much of Lucena's family is in Rio, watching the games from the stands.

"We know what he's been through and what it took for him to get there. It's been a journey so I'm excited for him, I want him to win gold," brother Sean Lucena said.

"I admire him, he's been through a lot of struggles ready to give up. But he kept pursuing and for that he is where he is today," Johnson said.

Lucena and Dalhausser were tied with Brazil one to one then lost the final game, dashing their Olympic hopes. The family was stunned but in awe of all the support for their brother.

"We feel so much support and love from friends and family, we are thankful and blessed to have this group, he definitely feels the love and support for all of us," Johnson said.

Lucena's family said they were proud he made it to the quarterfinals, the farthest he's made it in his Olympic career.
