Family Pleads for Help in Finding Inn Gunman

Father of young girl gunned down at Plantation club

Family and friends of a man gunned down outside a Plantation club joined police to ask for the public's help in finding his killer Monday.

Maxon Lauriston, 27, was one of two people shot outside the Plantation Inn Hotel and Lounge at 375 North State Road 7 on Aug. 26. A 24-year-old woman was also shot but survived.

Lauriston, a native of Haiti who worked as a maintenance man near where he lived in Delray Beach, left behind a 5-year-old daughter.

On Monday, friends of Lauriston gathered at Osceola Park in Delray Beach to remember him and plead for help in the search for his killer.

"Max was a lovable person, if you ever met Max and didn't see a smile or didn't get some kind of humor or he didn't lift your spirits, then you didn't meet Max Lauriston," said cousin Perlo Bastien.

Lauriston's killer remains on the loose. Police described the suspect as a black male, about 5-foot-10 and 150 pounds. Bastien said it's still hard for Lauriston's daughter to understand her dad is gone, and that friends and family want justice, not revenge.

"It's still kind of hard to describe and really explain the whole thing, it's still kind of like the missing link, 'where's my daddy,'" Bastien said. "That's why we're asking for the community's help."

There's currently a $1,000 reward in the crime and anyone with information is asked to call Broward CrimeStoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
