Family's 10 Pets Killed in North Lauderdale House Fire

A family of six has been displaced and 10 of their pets were killed after a fire broke out at their North Lauderdale home Monday.

Fire officials said nine cats and one dog were killed in the early morning fire, which happened near Southwest 71st Street.

"I don't even know what to do right now. I'm in shock," resident Aimee Fournier said.

"I heard things breaking and I got up and there was smoke in the house. I went outside and the garage was burning," Virginia Fournier said.

The family said the fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. Everyone made it out safely, except for the pets.

"We lost our pets, everything is a mess," Virginia Fournier said.

Fire officials said the flames were contained to the garage but there's smoke and water damage throughout the home. Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.

The Red Cross has stepped in to help the family, who said they don't have insurance.
