Fans, Dolphins Wide Receiver Devone Bess Hoping Peyton Manning Stays Here For Good

"Every time you turn on the TV they're talking about it," Bess said Thursday night

Since being released by the Indianapolis Colts, Peyton Manning has come to bask in the South Beach sunshine. Fans are hoping he will stay here for good – and so is Dolphins wide receiver Devone Bess.

"It would be an honor to play for him, play with him,” Bess said, eager to share his excitement about the possibility of courting the quarterback.

He and other sports big wigs were at a Make-A-Wish Foundation charity auction Thursday night. Bess admitted he's been keeping up with the Manning mania.

"Every time you turn on the TV they're talking about it. Everybody out here is excited about it, about the position in general,” he said. “We're looking forward to making changes, and getting our thing going.”

New Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin was a little more tight-lipped, saying he hadn't met with Manning yet.

"He's obviously had a phenomenal career up to this point and time,” he said. “He's been a great leader, he's had a great career with the Colts, we'll see how things develop in the next week or so."

The dolphins will also have to take a look at Manning's medical history – he leaves the Colts with four neck surgeries in just the past few years. But he's been working out in Miami and in North Carolina, where a much-watched YouTube video was shot.

"I still want to play,” Manning has said. “I still want to get back out there and play.”
