Father Fatally Shoots Man Threatening His Wife, Kids

The assailant's identity wasn't immediately known, police say

A father fatally shot a man who was threatening his wife and two small children with a peice of wood in their Pompano Beach front yard, the Broward Sheriff's Office said Monday.

Witnesses said they saw the man swinging the wood at the people when they walked out of their home around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The mother was trying to protect her 3 and 5 yeard-old children when her husband Emiliano Arellano came home with his two brothers. He tried to stop the man, but the man got very upset when he said he would call the police, and he somehow became aggressive towards the 5-year-old girl. That's when Arellano shot the man in the chest. The bullet also hit Arellano's brother, who was transported to the hospital in and is expected to recover.

The assailant died at the scene.

Arellano was cooperative with police when they questioned him, authorities said.

Detectives are still trying to figure out who the assailant is.
