Father of 9 Shot and Killed in Little Haiti: Police

A young father is dead after police said he was fatally shot early Friday morning in Little Haiti.

Miami Police said 36-year-old Michael Antwan Jackson was shot and killed just after midnight near 6865 Northwest 2nd Avenue.

Jackson died in a hail of bullets right in front of his apartment. Now, family members are desperate to find his killer.

"I looked out the window and I saw someone running down the street and I looked further down and there's my son laying on the ground," said the victim's father, Grant Jackson.

Besides the victim's father, neighbors also heard shots. They said about 12 rounds rang in the night as the community slept.

"Here's another example of a young man, 36 years, gunned down, shot at several times," said Sgt. Freddy Cruz with the City of Miami Police Dept.

Jackson is the father of nine children. His twin daughters were upstairs asleep. Someone shot Jackson only steps away from his home.

"The bullets was just sounding too close so I laid over the babies, the kids, just to make sure it wasn't coming in the window at my babies," the victim's girlfriend said.

Jackson had grown up in the neighborhood, and his kids too. But now a family is torn apart by grief and desperation.

"Y'all took an innocent man away from his kids. Whoever did this, just please, just turn yourself in. It don't make no sense. It don't," said the girlfriend.
