Father of Seven Shot, Killed Outside His Opa-locka Business Early Wednesday Morning

A family is in mourning and police are searching for answers after a father of seven was killed overnight outside of his Opa-locka business – with one of his daughters and a grandson watching the whole incident.

Officials have not released many details, but did confirm that 47-year-old Joe Gonzalez was shot outside the business at 2150 Opa-locka Boulevard shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Miami-Dade Police say that a man approached the vehicle Gonzalez was sitting in with his daughter and 1-year-old grandson and began to ask him about the business before leaving. Later, a second man did the same thing before both returned and opened fire on the car.

"One approached my dad on the passenger side, and as he was approaching him the other was standing on the side of the building waiting for the call to shoot him, and they shot him through my windshield," said Gonzalez's daughter, Gabrielle.

His daughter and grandson were not hurt.

Family members described Gonzalez, who owned a radio installation business at the location, as a hardworking family man who was “everyone’s friend”.

“We are trying desperately to find out who did this so they can be brought to justice,” said his sister, Geeleen.

“This is going on in this city, day in and day out, said his father, Jose. “You have to know about these things.”
