Ariana Fajardo Orshan, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, said in a news release that DeJesus and others were involved in the scheme to provide contraband to inmates from at least as early as December 2018.

Orshan said inmates and people acting on their behalf gave cash payments to DeJesus, who deposited the money in his personal bank account. In exchange, DeJesus would bring prohibited items into the prison, or had inmate co-conspirators distribute the contraband in the prison, Orshan said.
