Filipino Officials Discuss Climate Change in Fort Lauderdale

Officials from the Philippines are visiting Fort Lauderdale to discuss strategies for adapting to climate change.
 
Fort Lauderdale officials say their counterparts from Legazpi City, the Philippines, share many of South Florida's concerns about rising sea levels and urban resiliency.
 
The Filipino officials' weeklong tour includes wastewater treatment plants, the National Hurricane Center and discussions of the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact. Fort Lauderdale officials will visit the Philippines in the fall.
 
The visit is part of a CityLinks program funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development. A similar partnership has paired Chiang Rai, Thailand, with Cambridge, Massachusetts. USAID official Kevin Brownawell says the program enables "peer-to-peer learning in practical technical areas such as storm water management, erosion control and working with citizens on resilience."
