Fingerprints Link Man to Elderly Woman's Rape in '05

Man arrested on drug charges raped 70-year-old woman: police

Police say a man arrested on drug charges in Oakland Park two weeks ago was behind the vicious rape of an elderly Pompano Beach woman five years ago, police said.

Shane Michael Shaw, 23, was arrested August 4 on possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia charges, but when police ran his fingerprints, they found they matched prints left at the scene of a March 2005 rape of a 70-year-old woman.

The rape happened on the 1400 block of North Ocean Blvd., when the woman heard a knock at her door and the suspect forced his way inside when she answered.

The suspect tied the helpless woman up and gagged her to muffle her screams before raping her at knife point. He also stole $150 in cash before fleeing the scene.

Shaw is currently in police custody and expected to face rape charges.
