Authorities are searching for a person of interest after around 40 golf carts were destroyed when they caught fire Tuesday night at Miami's Melreese Country Club, the site of David Beckham's proposed Major League Soccer stadium.
Miami Fire Rescue responded to the golf course at 1802 NW 37th Avenue around 10:30 p.m., fire Capt. Ignatius Carroll said.
Officials said they are investigating the possibility that the fire was intentionally set and are looking for a person of interest seen on surveillance footage.
"We are looking at the footage, we did see someone who we consider a person of interest that we are working with the police department to try to identify and try to see if this person had anything directly related to this incident," Carroll said.
Users on social media posted photos and videos of the flames and smoke plumes in the sky. The 911 call about the fire came in about an hour and a half after the golf course closed on Tuesday night, officials said.

Carroll says fire crews quickly contained the fire in the parking lot, keeping it from spreading to the pro shop. No one was injured.
Officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation. Golf course officials said there were likely more than $250,000 in damages.
