Fisherman Dies After Being Hit by Train on Bridge in Aventura: Police

An Aventura man died Wednesday night after he was hit by a Florida East Coast Railway train while fishing on a train bridge, police said.

Two friends were fishing in a canal that separates North Miami Beach and Aventura, and when the two men tried to cross a nearby railroad track, one of them did not make it across in time, Aventura Police said. The other man was not injured, police added.

The train’s conductor called police at 6:10 p.m. to say he had hit someone near NE 179th Street and Biscayne Boulevard, police said, and the victim was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Both the Aventura and Florida East Coast Railway police departments are investigating.
