Fla. Mom Who Killed Teen Kids Ordered Held Without Bail

Tampa woman accused of murdering "mouthy" kids

The Tampa woman accused of shooting and killing her two teenage children because they were "talking back" made her first court appearance Monday.

Julie Powers Schenecker, 50, held a tissue and cried as she was ordered held without bail in the Thursday evening shooting deaths of her kids.

Schenecker, who spent two nights in a Tampa-area hospital, had her arms held by two deputies during the appearance.

Police say Schenecker shot her 13-year-old son Beau in the head twice as they drove home from his soccer practice, then turned the gun on her 16-year-old daughter Calyx while she was doing her homework.

Investigators believe the teens "never saw it coming."

Officers found Schenecker covered in blood Friday after her mother called police saying she was concerned. Beau's body was found in an SUV in the family's garage. Calyx's body was found in an upstairs bedroom.

Police said Schenecker left a note detailing her plans to kill her children and then herself, saying "they talked back and were mouthy and that she was going to take care of it." She provided the same motive to police who interviewed her, authorities said.

Schenecker's husband, Parker Schenecker, is a career Army officer and was working in the Middle East when the shootings happened.

Schenecker has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
