Bad Weather Delays, Cancels Hundreds of Flights at MIA, FLL

Hundreds of flights were delayed or canceled Friday evening at Miami International and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airports due to severe weather in the northeast.

FLL is expecting more than 100 flight delays and at least 25 cancellations, with some delays running more than several hours long.

At MIA, at over 100 flights were delayed and over 100 flights were cancelled due to inclement weather.

Both airports advise passengers to check with their airlines for their latest flight status.

A storm system barreling through the south killed an 8-year-old girl near Tallahassee.

A period of severe weather, including rain and thunderstorms, is expected to hit South Florida on Friday night. A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for central Florida, including Palm Beach County, but it isn't expected to reach Broward, Miami-Dade or Monroe counties.
