Florida Gov. Rick Scott Gives Medal to North Miami Beach Cop Shot in Line of Duty

The North Miami Beach Police officer who was shot in the line of duty was given an award by Florida Gov. Rick Scott Wednesday.

Scott presented Officer Lino Diaz was the Medal of Heroism at an afternoon ceremony at Ojus Elementary School.

"A big thank you to the school for putting on this event and also to the governor and his office for coming out and recognizing law-enforcement," Diaz said.

Meanwhile, the man charged with shooting Diaz attended a hearing Wednesday as he seeks his release on bond.

Elton Bandoo is charged with attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer in the Feb. 6 shooting.

Diaz was serving a federal search warrant for identity fraud at Bandoo's home when he was shot. Bandoo claims he thought he was being robbed when he opened fire.

Diaz underwent surgery for gunshot wounds to his arm and leg and was later released from the hospital.
