Florida Grandmother Appeals Decision for Kids to Be Placed With Foster Parents

The Michigan Supreme Court is hearing the case Tuesday.

The Michigan Supreme Court is hearing the case of a Florida woman who wants to be the guardian of four children in Michigan.

Authorities are appealing a decision that would take the siblings away from foster parents and make Lori Scribner the guardian.

Scribner is a nurse who lives in St. Augustine, Fla. She's also the paternal grandmother of three of the children. She was granted guardianship earlier this year after the Michigan appeals court said a Muskegon County judge put too much emphasis on foster families when a relative was available.

The Supreme Court is hearing arguments Tuesday. The court is expected to clarify Michigan law in areas of child guardianship involving relatives.
