A Lakeland man was sentenced to life in prison for the death of a drag queen known as South Beach Wanda.
Jurors took less than five hours last week to convict 26-year-old Deandre Tolliver for the pre-meditated killing of Anthony Jerome Lee in 2013. Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Kimberly Fernandez sentenced Tolliver on Thursday morning.
The Tampa Tribune reports Tolliver was also convicted on charges of possession and discharge of a firearm resulting in death and burglary and assault.
Prosecutors say Lee was visiting a friend in Tampa on May 28, 2013, when three people drove up. Lee answered the door and Toliver forced his way inside. Authorities say Lee was shot during the struggle.
