A Florida sheriff is urging residents to legally arm themselves in the days following the tragic massacre of 26 worshipers during a service at a church in Texas on Sunday.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says he supports the Second Amendment, and advocated for citizens to legally obtain their gun licenses and be prepared to protect one another.
"A good person with a gun is not a danger to society, you’re an attribute," Judd said in a video posted on Facebook in response to Texas’ deadliest mass shooting.
Judd says the bottom line is simple: residents must look out for one another, and need the proper training and equipment to do so.
"I believe for those who care enough to learn how to carry a firearm safely, use a firearm safely. Get your concealed fiream license, and be prepared to protect your fellow person," Judd said.
Stephen Willeford and Johnnie Langendorff, who many are hailing as heroes, exchanged gunfire with the church shooter and embarked on a high-speed chase. The pursuit ended when the gunman struck a road sign and flipped his vehicle.
Investigators believe the gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to reports, at least a dozen of the 26 people killed in the small-town church were children. A couple who survived the attack said the gunman walked from pew to pew looking for victims and shot crying babies at point-blank range.
