Florida Substitute Teacher Accused of Sexual Relationship With Student

Stacy Cabral, 23, was arrested Thursday on multiple charges

A South Florida substitute teacher was arrested after admitting to having a romantic relationship with an underage student she tutored, authorities said.

Stacy Cabral, 23, was arrested Thursday on multiple counts of solicitation of a minor, an authority figure soliciting or engaging in lewd conduct with a student, electronic transmission of harmful material to a minor, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office arrest report.

The report said Cabral, who was employed by the Palm Beach County School Board as a substitute teacher, had been hired in May by the mother of a 16-year-old boy to tutor him. Several tutoring sessions took place at a library in Lantana, the report said.

The boy's mother began suspecting an inappropriate relationship after seeing text messages and photos on the teen's phone that were "sexually suggestive," the report said. The mother later told Cabral that she had seen behavior, photos and sexual language between her and the teen, and told Cabral her services were no longer needed, the report said.

Cabral apologized and told the mother she would stay away from the teen, but days later, the mother tracked her son down to Cabral's home in Greenacres, the report said.

The teen later admitted to the relationship, saying they "had feelings for each other" and that Cabral quit her job as a substitute teacher so the two could continue dating, the report said. He also said he was in love with Cabral, the report said.

Detectives found nude photos of Cabral on the teen's phone, and the teen admitted he sent naked photos of himself to Cabral, the report said. Cabral later confessed to having an inappropriate romantic relationship with the teen and said "she knew what she was doing was wrong," the report said.

Cabral was booked into jail, where she remained held on $15,000 bond Friday, records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.

A district spokesperson confirmed to WPTV that Cabral was fired.
