Florida Woman Convicted of Killing 3-Year-Old Grandson

Jurors took just 20 minutes to find a 57-year-old central Florida woman guilty of aggravated manslaughter in the death of her 3-year-old grandson.

The verdict was reached Thursday in Melbourne.

Prosecutors say Gale Watkins and two others were charged in the October 2013 death of Michael Watkins, who suffocated after being wrapped tightly in blankets as a form of discipline.

The News Press of Fort Myers reports the boy's 22-year-old stepfather Douglas Garrigus accepted a plea deal and will serve 10 years in prison. In July 46-year-old Donella Trainor pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Watkins will be sentenced on Jan. 12.
