A new study finds an abundance of rotting seaweed along Florida's Atlantic beaches won't be going away any time soon.
The University of South Florida study released Thursday found that satellite images show areas of seaweed stretching from West Africa to the Gulf of Mexico.
This type of seaweed is also known as sargassum, and smells like rotten eggs. It also kills marine life and turns the clear water brown.
The study's lead scientist Mengqiu Wang says climate change and raw sewage are playing a role in the influx of seaweed. It has been an issue since 2011.
