Food Truck Explodes in Southwest Miami-Dade

The blast shattered the windows of nearby homes and caused ceilings to come down.

A South Florida food truck explosion sent mangled wreckage and debris flying as far as 100 feet and shattered windows of nearby homes in southwest Miami-Dade.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue teams responded the site of the truck, just between West Miami and Coral Gables at 1970 Southwest 57th Place in southwest Miami-Dade, Thursday morning.

According to an initial investigation, the truck's 100 gallon propane tank leaked overnight and caught fire, causing the truck to explode. The entire trailer was blown apart, and windows of neighboring homes were shattered. The inside ceiling of two nearby homes came down after the blast.

"I heard a big explosion, big boom, and it was really big. I have never experienced anything like it in my life," said neighbor Luis Hajular.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue also put down a small fire upon arriving at the scene.

No injuries have been reported.

Fire rescue crews remained at the scene for much of the day. An investigation is ongoing.

"It's undetermined, but it seems like there was enough gas to start the pilot and create the explosion. We were very fortunate it wasn't a larger explosion," said Ray Barretto with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

The explosion has been ruled an accident.
