Forecasters Keeping Eye on Possible Tropical System Over Atlantic

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center are keeping an eye on an area of low pressure out over the Atlantic Ocean that could form into a tropical system days before hurricane season is officially set to begin.

The area of low pressure is expected to form several hundred miles south or southwest of Bermuda late this weekend or early next week, according to a special outlook released by the NHC on Friday. It has no chance of development over the next two days and just a 30 percent chance of development over the next five days.

The system was expected to move northward or northeastward and poses no threat to South Florida or the east coast as of Friday.

It's the second time this year that the National Hurricane Center has been watching an area for possible tropical development.
