Former Margate Commissioner Convicted in Public Corruption Case

A former Margate city commissioner who accepted cash in exchange for political favors was convicted on public corruption charges Monday, prosecutors said.

Jurors found 56-year-old David McLean guilty on one count of bribery by a public servant, two counts of unlawful compensation, three counts of official misconduct and one count of theft, Broward State Attorney Mike Satz said.

McLean was accused of securing political favors for his landlord at a strip mall in Margate where McLean ran a tiki bar. The landlord gave him cash payments in exchange for the favors.

McLean was taken into custody Monday after after the jury returned the verdict. He could face at least four years in state prison at his sentencing, which is scheduled for March 12.
