Former Miami Hurricanes Diver Enjoying Silver Medal Win at Rio Olympics

They weren't expected to do it, since Sam Dorman and Michael Hixon had only competed together once before the Olympics. But Wednesday, they shocked the world by winning silver in the three meter springboard -which Dorman and his Miami Hurricanes coach celebrated by flashing the U!

"To carry that (Miami tradition) along is simply amazing," Dorman said.

Dorman and Randy Ableman had an especially emotional moment, because Ableman was stripped of his own chance at glory when he qualified for the 1980 Olympics in Moscow – one that the U.S. boycotted.

"I started tearing up, he started tearing up, it was amazing,” Dorman said.

USA's silver medal wasn't without drama. Right before their final dive, the Mexican team asked for a re-do when a light flickered during their dive.

“We were so confused and then, they finally announce us like ‘oh we're up’."

Sam never looks at the scoreboard, so he didn't know where they stood, until China's dive in the competition.

It was a rainy day in Rio and with an open air stadium, you would think that could be a problem. But Dorman said he prayed for rain!

"Mikey and I were so happy when raining, because people hate bad weather and we prepped for it so I was like this is perfect,” said Dorman
