Former NBA Star Arrested for Leaving the Scene of an Accident: Cops

Anderson is no longer in custody.

A former NBA player was arrested Sunday after slamming his white Cadillac Escalade into two trees and fleeing on foot, Miramar Police said.

Kenneth Anderson, 41, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage of over $50, according to a complaint affidavit.

Pembroke Pines Police responded to Anderson's home and advised him to return to the scene of the crash, the affidavit said.

When Anderson arrived, he told Miramar Police that he was the driver and that a blown tire caused the crash, the affidavit said.

Authorities say all four tires were blown and the rims were bent. The affidavit said the vehicle was traveling straight on the road.

When the road curved, the car "continued straight and he failed to negotiate the curve, which caused him to strike the concrete curb and continue up onto the grassy swale," the affidavit said.

The arresting officer noted that Anderson had a strong odor of alcohol, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Anderson told the officer that he had had "a few drinks" before crashing, the affidavit said.

Anderson was released from Broward County Jail on Monday on $100 bond. His attorney's name wasn't immediately known.

He coaches boys basketball at David Posnack Jewish Day School in Davie, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

The athletic director at the school did not have a comment but told the newspaper that Anderson began coaching this year and that the school is happy with him, according to the Sentinel.
