What to Know

  • 35-year-old Javier Cuenca is again behind bars after the latest allegations from another students claiming they were molested by him.

A former South Florida teacher accused of multiple counts of molestation against former students is facing new charges.

Javier Cuenca, 35, was arrested again, this time after a complaint from a now 18-year-old who says he was abused by Cuenca while a student at Miami Gardens Middle School, where Cuenca was a math teacher and basketball coach.

Cuenca refused to attend his Monday morning bond court hearing. It's unknown if he's hired an attorney.

According to police, the victim says Cuenca asked to see his genitals on multiple occasions at both a gym and in front of the victim’s home, claiming that he was seeing if the victim was ready for steroids Cuenca said he could provide. Cuenca allegedly touched the victim’s penis and testicles during the second incident.

Cuenca was arrested in 2014 after six students claimed they were molested by the former basketball coach at Hialeah Gardens High School, being charged with multiple counts of lewd and lascivious conduct. Cuenca would later move on to teach at a charter school in Broward County at the time of his arrest.

Detectives believe there may be more victims and are asking anyone with information to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
