Fort Lauderdale Police Officer Shoots Man at Broward Central Terminal

A man was hospitalized after he was shot by a Fort Lauderdale police officer Friday night at Broward Central Terminal.

The shooting happened at around 8 p.m. in the area of 101 NW 1st Street.

The officer was patrolling the terminal for a property check when there was a disturbance with the adult male suspect, said Fort Lauderdale police spokesperson Tracy Figone.

"A disturbance with an adult male turned into the officer having to shoot the suspect," Figone said.

The suspect was hospitalized and in stable condition, police said.

Cellphone video from a witness shows the chaotic moments after the shooting. The man is seen on the ground in handcuffs with officers standing over him and rendering aid. Someone is heard yelling, "He shot him."

"The video doesn't show the beginning part. The police officer had the man at taser point at first," a witness told NBC 6. "When the man started to run, that's when he pulled out his gun and shot him in the back."

Officials say what led up to the shooting is still under investigation.
