Fort Lauderdale's Salt Suite Provides Another Treatment Option For Various Ailments

Natalie Klesmer at times had swollen legs and difficulty breathing, but multiple salt therapy sessions each week relieved the pain.

Klesmer suffers from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and visits Salt Suite, a salt therapy facility that opened in Fort Lauderdale last year, routinely. During the 45-minute sessions, Klesmer breathed in salt and felt better.

“My legs had been swollen and they are not anymore,” Klesmer said. “My brown spots are disappearing. It helps me tremendously and I feel good. I’m breathing a little better, and I find it a wonderful experience.”

Salt Suite’s owners said that the “inhaled therapy” can complement a physicians’ prescribed care and that many people who attend the sessions have chronic issues, asthma, allergies, dermatitis or eczema.

Salt Suite uses pure medical grade salt that’s been mechanically ground into small dust particles to be whiffed in.

Dr. Ronald Drucker, who has authored a book about holistic health and natural healing, both uses the therapy and recommends it to his patients. He said pregnant women with sore joints, back pain or insomnia can benefit from the therapy.

“It’s not going to kill every single bacteria,” Drucker said. “But it will kill enough so then your immune system can destroy the remainder.”

Salt therapy caves or lounges have started to appear across the country and could become more popular among those seeking relief.

“They come out feeling very relaxed,” Jamie Stafford, co-owner of Salt Suite, said. “People feel invigorated when they come out, but they are a little salty.”
