A family is in mourning after a child drowned in a Plantation pool Sunday.
According to Plantation Fire Rescue officials, a woman was taking care of her 4-year-old grandson in the 5000 block of SW 2nd Street while his father was at work.
At some point, authorities said the grandmother may have fallen asleep, and the child somehow got into the back yard.
Upon arriving home, the father found the child at the bottom of the pool. Officials said he pulled the boy from the water and called 911. Responders attempted to resuscitate the boy on-scene.
Paramedics rushed the boy to Plantation General Hospital, where he died. He was later identified as Jayden Daniel.
The drowning is under investigation.
