Fourth Annual Taste of Haiti Kicks Off

As part of Miami-Dade County’s celebrations of Haitian Cultural Heritage Month, the fourth annual Taste of Haiti offers plenty of tastes, sights and sounds to celebrate.

The event takes place Saturday at the Museum of Contemporary Art plaza located at 770 NE 125th St. in North Miami.

The free-admission culinary extravaganza will showcase delicious Haitian cuisine from some of the top chefs and restaurants in the community. The event also will feature activities for the entire family, as well as music and entertainment.

"We're here to celebrate the diversity of Miami and being from Louisiana myself there's a huge influence of French and Hatian culture," said Dustin Parks, first time attendee. "We wanted to come out and celebrate and try some good food."

Stephan Durand is president of the Haitian Culinary Alliance and says a Taste of Haiti highlights the countries diverse cultures and influences with this community.

"The best way to share your culture is through food," says Durand.

Commission Chairman Jean Monestime, in collaboration with the Haitian Culinary Alliance, the City of North Miami, the Consulate General of the Republic of Haiti in Miami, the Haitian-American Chamber of Commerce of Florida and the Little Haiti Optimist Club are hosting the event.

“I encourage residents from all across South Florida to come and feast on delicious Haitian cuisine while enjoying a great outing with the family,” Chairman Monestime said.
