Friends and family members were coming together Wednesday to remember 11-year-old Martha Guzman just days after she was found lying in a pool of her own blood inside her mother’s home.
The details of Martha’s death and what her mother found were too much for some neighbors and friends. Guzman’s body was found with a knife in her throat, cuts to both arms, and bruises to her face. Police said Martha was taken from her mother’s apartment in critical condition, but died at the hospital.
Martha’s friend Anay Perez said she was with the girl just a day before she died.
“It’s going to be hard, but I am going to miss her a lot,” Anay said. “We were watching a movie, eating popcorn and stuff and I went home and woke up the next morning and found out.”
Miami Police said they were continuing to investigate the death and after locating one man they wanted to speak to, said he is no longer a person of interest. The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner has not released an exact cause of death.
