Fugitives May Have Killed FSU Student

One of three escaped convicts caught in Miami told police student was killed: report

Police may soon add murder charges to the aggravated assault and kidnapping charges three dangerous escaped convicts racked up during their 1,000-mile journey that ended in Miami last week.

Florida State University student Vincent Binder went missing in the days after the three fugitives escaped from a jail in Marksville, LA on March 30, and one of the convicts said he thinks Binder's dead.

Kentrell Johnson told Tallahassee police that Binder was led into a wooded area by fellow escapees Quentin Truehill and Peter Hughes, and was never seen again, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Johnson told police that Binder approached the three men at a Tallahassee gas station to buy marijuana, and that the escaped cons drove around with Binder to ATMs with the intention of robbing him.

When the 29-year-old's debit card didn't work, Johnson, who told police he was high on drugs, fell asleep as Truehill and Hughes led Binder into the woods.

No one has seen him since.

"They didn't have to kill him that way," Johnson told police, according to an arrest affidavit.

The trio of prisoners made their way south, traveling all the way to Miami, committing robberies along the way, police said.

The three men were picked up on April 13 at a Budget Inn on the 8900 block of Northwest 27th Ave. in Miami by U.S. Marshals after the truck they escaped in was found on Collins Ave.

They left a trail of evidence behind, using Binder's credit card to make purchases at gas stations from Jacksonville to Miami, police said.

Truehill, 22, was serving a 30-year sentence for manslaughter. Hughes, also 22, was serving a four-year sentence for unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling. Johnson, 39, was serving a 10-year sentence for parole violation while awaiting trial for armed robbery.

The three have also been charged with kidnapping as police continue the search for Binder.

Binder's family held a vigil this past Sunday for him and have started a Website to help find him.
